Why aren’t you where you want to be in life?
I’ve thought about this before. The one quote that comes to mind is: “I always wonder why birds stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth. Then I ask myself the same question. “ The one instance that sticks in my mind is when I was 26 and I was at a get together with some friends and some guys mentioned “you know I never thought I would be at this place in my life, I always thought I would be more successful”. The guy who mentioned this was a technician at a car assembly plant and the guys he was talking to were salesmen. They answered “yes I know what you mean” and I didn’t answer, I just started thinking. Why are people not where they thought they would be? What stopped them? Why is a guy working putting car parts together on new cars? He graduated at 18 and this is 8 years later. What did he do in the 8 years? Most people work a few jobs and the learning and training period is a few weeks and then they just glide and go home and spend leisure time and go out on the weekends. Most people don’t save money, what they earn is what they spend. What does their successful dream self do to get to their goal? Work a job and constantly ask the boss for more assignments and more hours leading to more responsibility and more pay? Monitor their spending? Save as much as they can so more opportunities can open up? Read books? Start a YouTube channel? Write a blog daily about something they like to teach others for nothing in return? The bricks that build a successful empire are invisible to the man in the street. It’s work behind the scenes and work and sacrifice that no one knows about.
